Art Imitates Art

Emily is a talented artist in my "Under the Influence of Art" class. When we learned about Vincent Van Gogh, each child went home with a piece inspired by "Starry Night". Emily's mom then asked me to create a Raspberry picture based on Emily's "Starry Night." So, Van Gogh's work inspired Emily's work which then inspired my work. Art Imitates Art!

Under the Influence-Vincent Van Gogh

Today's art class was FANTASTIC. Not only did the kids create gorgeous works of art, but they all finished and everyone helped with the cleanup. Sometimes things just go so smoothly. I want to thank all of the kids for behaving so well, trying their hardest and cooperating so well at clean-up time!

This week we learned about Vincent Van Gogh. In the past, the students painted Starry Night or Sunflowers. This session, I tried a different version of Starry Night, one that had a few different steps to it (oil pastels, painting, cutting, pasting and , of course, some glitter). This project is definitely a keeper. I love these "Starry Chicago Nights!" (wind and all).

Under the Influence-Week 2

We had another great week at “Under the Influence...of Art.” This week we learned about Vincent Van Gogh. The kids learned that “Starry Night” was his most famous work. We looked at his brush strokes and saw how effectively his swirls depicted the wind.

The students then created their own Starry Night. We used paints and finished off the pictures with some silver glitter (maybe Van Gogh would have been happier had he used glitter too!).
